Welcoming A New Season: Your Fall Home Checklist

The start of a new season marks the perfect time to ensure your home is in tip-top condition. Here are some of the maintenance tasks we like to check on with the onset of fall.

Roof

Performing a simple visual check of your roof is a great way to make sure you’re ready for the rainy season! Be on the lookout for lifted or missing shingles, moss, and missing or damaged pieces around vents or chimneys.

Plumbing

Before the first freeze of the season disconnecting hoses is a must! We like to drain faucets, stow hoses indoors to prolong their lifetime, and place foam insulated covers on spouts.

Windows

To keep your home energy efficient, it’s also a great time to repair or replace weathered windows! Through a visual inspection, you’ll want to look for cracks and gaps that are wider than the width of a nickel, and apply caulking. Bonus tip: fill gaps or holes where critters may be able to sneak through.

Fire Alarms

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3! Friendly reminder to ensure your fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning.

Air Filters

Did you know that replacing your furnace air filter is a great way to keep your energy efficient? You can remove dust build ups or replace filters for your furnace and ventilation fans.

Prepare For Winter

While fall is just getting started, the cool winter weather is just around the corner! Before storms are in the forecast we recommend making sure you’re stocked up with ice scrapers, snow shovels, and firewood (get in now, before the frenzy!).
